I ran "install transmission-x11 -gtk -aqua" 

--->  Configuring transmission-x11
...
checking for intltool >= 0.40.0... ./configure: line 20461: intltool-update: command not found
...
configure: error: Your intltool is too old.  You need intltool 0.40.0 or later.

installing intltool and retrying worked
