Same here. similar log. Got Undefined symbols for architecture x86_64 error also when building apple-gcc42. Mine is not newly installed though. Tried updating ports to new version.

Jemery, this looks similar to the way other ports are failing to build for me, in the presence of the ld64 port.

Indeed. This is actually a dupe of #36026 which predates libstdcxx changes. It just happens to be the case that gccXX fails to build for some people, so by extension, libstdcxx will fail to build.
For the life of me, I can't get this issue to reproduce, so please please please try to debug this yourselves and figure out what the missing link is. This is the first I've heard that it was on ML, so that eliminates my hunch that it may have been a Lion-only issue... =/
This is newly installed OS X machine but once it failed to build gcc47 because the portfile was broken. (https://trac.macports.org/changeset/97657) After that, this machine cannot install gcc47 port even it is updated.
