Description: modified (diff)
Port: expat added
Summary: installing wine goes wrong :( please help...expat: configure failure
Version: 2.1.2

Thanks for the report. Please remember to use WikiFormatting and to CC any port maintainers in future tickets.

The problem seems to involve expat. Can you try running the following?

$ sudo port clean expat wine
$ sudo port selfupdate
$ sudo port install expat

If that still fails, please attach the mentioned main.log file. Otherwise, you can continue with sudo port install wine again.

The log says "error: C compiler cannot create executables". This usually means Xcode's command line tools are not installed properly. Open Xcode, go to Preferences, to Downloads, and install or update the command line tools from there.

comment:7 Changed 12 years ago by foossolutions@…

I tried to find a possibility to download the commandline tools but i can't find any way to do that :( Preferences doesn't have a download section... this is Xcode version 3.1.3 because i run leopard...

comment:8 Changed 12 years ago by jmroot (Joshua Root)

The "UNIX Development" option needs to be selected at install time with Xcode 3.1.x. You might as well update to 3.1.4 while you're at it. If installing Xcode with that option doesn't help, please attach the config.log.

comment:9 Changed 12 years ago by foossolutions@…

hmmzz getting wierder :) it is installed whit the unix development option because otherwise the whole wine program won't work at all :( i found a torrent whit the 3.1.4. version so i download that one (still busy and not that fast) or someone else got an other suggestion? because apple only offers version 4 and that won't run on leopard :( so i wait and reinstall 3.1.4 and hope it will work whit that... thanks for the help so far,

greetingz Joost

Sorry, I neglected to notice that you were using Leopard. The Download option in Xcode's preferences is in Xcode 4.3 and later, which doesn't work on Leopard.

Please download Xcode 3.1.4 directly from Apple Developer Connection. You'll need a free Apple Developer Connection account to do so.

While waiting for that to download, please "See `config.log' for more details" as the log says. Perhaps it indicates a different cause of the problem. The config.log is located in the directory identified by the command "port work expat". You can attach the log to this ticket and we can have a look at it.
