Description (last modified by jmroot (Joshua Root))
Dear all, I have recently up-graded to Catalina OSX. I have followed all the instructions to migrate properly https://trac.macports.org/wiki/Migration but i encountered troubles, specifically with installing texlive. I did the following steps:
- I installed X-Code new release, Version 11.1 (11A1027)
- I uninstalled all my ports
sudo port -f uninstall installed; sudo rm -rf /opt/local/var/macports/build/*
- I installed I downloaded and installed https://github.com/macports/macports-base/releases/download/v2.6.2/MacPorts-2.6.2-10.15-Catalina.pkg
- I updated my ports
sudo port -v selfupdate
- I installed
sudo port -v install xorg-server
which has been successful - Then I tried to install texlive
sudo port -v install
texlive
with no success. Attached you will find the main.log for details. I already tried 3 times to complete all the preceeding steps with no success.... So if someone could explain to me what I am doing wrong or if anyone is experiencing the same hurdles please tell me. Many thanks for your help !

You probably installed, for whatever reason, most probably compiling manually, stuff in /usr/local
.
Check here for recommendations: https://trac.macports.org/ticket/56682 (i.e. delete libmpfr
and libgmp
from /usr/local
)

Do you have anything installed under /usr/local ? i.e. what does running
ls /usr/local/*
return ?
FWIW, texlive-bin installs just fine for me here, on macOS 10.15 + Xcode 11.1, so I suspect its something related to what your system has in the above area. If you do have things installed in /usr/local, please remove them and try again.
( b.t.w. I assume you aren't trying to use Homebrew and Macports at the same time ;) ? )

I have in the past used HomeBrew, but switched to Macports.

OK, so you have a lot of stuff installed in /usr/local. This is your problem, macPorts does not support this, you need to remove it.
See
https://trac.macports.org/wiki/FAQ#usrlocal
for more details.

Thanks for the FAQ. Do you know if I can remove everything that is in /usr/local ?
comment:9 Changed 5 years ago by cjones051073 (Chris Jones)
Only you can decide that, as only you know the origins behind how what is there got installed...

At the very least though, if something is there in /usr/local because of homebrew, you need to make sure you have completely uninstalled everything you installed with homebrew. You need to check with the homebrew faqs etc. on how to do that ;)
