Description

Hello, searching for "octave" at "https://ports.macports.org/", I don't get what I am looking for.

The result with name "octave-devel" which description is "obsolete port, replaced by octave" has a link to his own page where there are another link to "octave".

I think it is necessary to improve that search.

Thanks.

So if I understand you correctly, you would like a search for "octave" to return a result set that contains the port "octave", ideally at the top of the list. That seems reasonable. I think this issue is already being tracked at https://github.com/macports/macports-webapp/issues/86

Hello, thank you Ryan for your comment.

The main problem isn't that the port "octave" should be at the top, although some type of order would be cool. The main problem is that the port "octave" doesn't appear at all and that is very confusing. When I search for "octave" I don't get "octave".

Thanks.

Yes, the ordering is a secondary issue.

This has been fixed, but not yet deployed (expected by July-end). Can be tested on the temporary URL: http://macports.silentfox.tech/, exact matches appear at the top.

Further, a dedicated enhanced search page has also been added: http://macports.silentfox.tech/search/, if you select "Only match by port names", then again exact matches appear at the top, otherwise, matching happens using description also. http://macports.silentfox.tech/search/?q=octave&name=on

Any further feedback would be helpful.

This can be closed now. We rolled out the new update and https://ports.macports.org provides better exact matches now.
