#65460 new defect

irssi @1.4.1_0+perl on PPC 10.4 is unable to connect to any servers

Description

Hi and sorry if this is the wrong place to report something like this, but recently I tried to upgrade my irssi installation from version @1.2.3_0+perl to @1.4.1_0+perl on 10.4 ppc and while I managed to compile it just fine and the client does start without any errors, it's completely unable to connect to any servers. Basically the client just displays message like "[Rizon] -!- Irssi: Looking up irc.rizon.net", but never actually tries to connect to that server because the connection never timeouts.

I then tried to downgrade my irssi back to @1.2.3_0+perl and absolutely same thing happened. This leaves me to the conclusion that one of the depedency ports might be faulty, but they all seem to compile and install just fine. I even made a completely clean macports installation with same result.

Is there any way to figure out what's actually wrong (or missing) with my setup (maybe a command that would collect logs during the installation process)? Or maybe downgrade every single port that irssi is depending on?

MacPorts just switched its default perl from 5.28 to 5.34; maybe that is having an effect on irssi. There is another open ticket about irssi as well.

A small update for this ticket. I decided to completely reinstall my system and switched to 10.5.9 Sorbet Leopard. Macports does compile everything without any visible errors, but the end result is the same; the client just can't connect to any of my servers.

During the installation I noticed that Macports installed Perl 5.34 (instead of 5.28) which could be the issue, but I have no idea if it's possible to reinstall irssi with Perl version 5.28.
