This is arguably wrong, despite the build succeeding. Regular xz uses gcc-4.2.

On 10.6 when building for ppc it is similar: xz uses gcc-4.2, xz-bootstrap picks clang.

Change History (3)

comment:1 Changed 10 months ago by ryandesign (Ryan Carsten Schmidt)

Cc: jmroot added
Port: python27 added
Summary: xz-bootstrap picks llvm-gcc-4.2 instead of gcc-4.2 on Leopardxz-bootstrap and python27-bootstrap pick llvm-gcc-4.2 instead of gcc-4.2 on Leopard

This is presumably because the xz-bootstrap subport contains this line:

    compiler.whitelist clang llvm-gcc-4.2 gcc-4.2 apple-gcc-4.2

Looks like python27-bootstrap does the same. This line was added in [e967bb1325decd8d0c05f2f37b27067f6d780eb3/macports-ports] to fix #58876.

If the build succeeds, I don't think I would call this a problem or change it. (If it's been working for years, why change it? Changing it might break something.)

Actually, it became an issue, see https://trac.macports.org/ticket/71215

comment:3 Changed 3 weeks ago by ryandesign (Ryan Carsten Schmidt)

Ok. Josh, do you recall why you chose this order of compilers? Can llvm-gcc-4.2 be removed from the list of all the ports where this was added (xz, gettext, gperf, icu, ncurses, pkgconfig, python27, libiconv, libxml2) since it doesn't work for xz anymore?

Note: See TracTickets for help on using tickets.
