    1 It looks like I have resolved the problem by upgrading my Mac OS from 13.3 to 14.6 Sonoma. 
     1It looks like I have resolved the problem by upgrading my Mac OS from 13.3 to 14.6 Sonoma.  Then I reinstalled Macports from scratch.
