Description

I was reinstalling MacPorts on a freshly formatted machines, following the instructions in InstallingMacPorts. I noticed that the instructions were incomplete. Since I had a username and password for the site, I thought I'd be helpful, log in and be helpful by updating the page. There was no edit link, but a couple seconds of surfing indicated that adding ?action=edit to the URL should work. When I tried that, I got the error: WIKI_MODIFY privileges are required to perform this operation. I'm logged in, why can't I edit the page? I was just going to add 2 cents worth of information. I've wasted my time and your time with this bug report instead.

P.S. The useful information was in the shell and X11 area:

To ensure that ~/.profile is loaded on every xterm and not just the first one, start xterm as a login shell with xterm -ls. You can add alias xterm="xterm -ls" to your .profile and change the entry in X11|Applications|Customize Menu...

P.P.S. There's still one ~./profile on the page.

The instructions tell users to launch X11 from the /Applications/Utilities/X11 app. So how would I use xterm -ls? I tried changing xterm to "xterm -ls" in /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc but when I open the second X11 session my path is not the one set in my .profile.

Okay I didn't read your information close enough. It works fine. I updated the wiki with howto customze the X11 menu. I left out starting an xterm from the terminal because xterm is not in one's path if the instructions are followed and I don't see a reason to add it.

This is great stuff! I've wantd to solve this for awhile but didn't know anyone that knew how to solve it.

The wiki restrictions are duplicated by ticket #10673 so I'll close this one. I'm not sure what it'll take to get this to happen.
