UPDATE: py(-)xml 0.8.3
-rename pyxml to py-xml -bump version from 0.8.2 to 0.8.3 (which makes patch unnecessary)

I just installed this and it built fine for me. All the tests passed, so I'm confident that this update is good.
It also seems cleaner than the initial port file... I like it much better than the initial work I did.
So, if someone wants to commit this that would be great...
