I didn't have any such problems when installing fribidi. Could you try running "file ${prefix}/var/db/dports/distfiles/fribidi/*", or even "less ${prefix}/var/db/dports/distfiles/fribidi/*"? My guess is that you tried to install fribidi when the website was down, and it didn't give a proper error code return when it failed; checking the file type or listing the file contents will show us whether or not it returned a webpage. (Beware that, if you use less on files that happen to be binary, you may have to kill your terminal if it hangs.) It seems that fribidi is hosted at freedesktop.org, and freedesktop.org seems to be developing a history of problems with poor uptime or improper responses in cases like this.
