selfupdate keeps on running configure

Description
sudo port -vd selfupdate -> It starts to check it's port-tree -> Then it sees there is version 1.44 available -> It configures it, writes the config.status file -> It runs "make clean" -> And it starts running "./config.status --recheck"
I left my computer on for 1 day, and it still kept on running configure... I have no idea why.

Can't duplicate this. Does this occur with MacPorts 1.442 also?
