py-ipython appears to build and run fine without the use of py-scientific and as reported in bug #12289 py-scientific doesn't appear to build at the moment. So, without removing the dependency, py-ipython doesn't build for me.

Anyway, I have now implemented a (default) variant scientific, which can be disabled if you know what you are doing, in order to avoid the dependency on py-scientific.
