Well, you could certainly consider it an update to the existing rb-activeldap port.

The difference is that the existing is a non-gem version while this is the gem version.

I don't know if you guys have a preference on non-gem/gem, I just find gems easier to deal when building on multiple platforms (I do RHEL4, RHEL5 as RPMs and Portfiles on OS X). As far as I know both gem and non-gem should behave the same, it's just a matter of how to install and where in the directory tree they get installed.
