Description
IEs4Linux allows for Microsoft Internet Explorer to run on a linux-based system without requiring Wine. Of the various end users, this would be helpful for any web developer who needs to test on various browsers but does not have a Windows-based machine.

Summary: | RFP: IEs4Linux → RFP: IEs4Linux / IEs4Mac |
Good news: It looks like a) IEs4Linux 2.99.0 works better on Mac OS X, and b) soon there will be IEs4Mac.

I have spent a very long time trying to make this work today. And it doesn't work yet. Moreover, the current version of IEs4Linux in their Subversion repository has changed quite a bit, and does seem to work better than 2.99.0. We may just have to wait for version 3.0 before a portfile gets made. Though I should attach what I've got so far to this ticket.

IEs4Linux/IEs4Mac/IEs4OSX haven't been maintained since ~2008. There are other maintained Wine derivatives with automated IE installation such as WineBottler (which is what IEs4OSX redirects to) and PlayOnMac, but none of those are in MacPorts.

We do have winetricks, which claims to be able to install IE 6, 7, and 8.
I was working on a port for IEs4Linux but got stuck on something and forgot about it. I'll see if I can finish it up.
Note that Microsoft's legalese says you must own a copy of Windows in order to use IE, even if you're using IE through IEs4Linux.
