I could not compile memcached on OSX 10.3.
The following patches fix this problem.

Though the former patch is, just as you said, already committed in svn trunk, the lattar one is not.
I thought it might be better to fix these problem in MacPorts first because memcached release seemed not so often. http://www.danga.com/memcached/news.bml
But if fixed version of memcached will be released in near future, I also think that there's no need to hurry this fix.

Attached patches that fixes this bug. I couldn't wait thet next release ;) I think people like me, who is using 10.3 and an impatient kind, might be also glad to have working port.

memcached 1.2.4 finally released! I attached portfile for this. which works fine on 10.3

This is fixed in memcached's svn trunk, and theoretically the next release will be out by the end of the month. Unless there's a more urgent need, it seems to make sense to wait for the next release?
