Following a suggestion from Eridius:
Beginning with a clean MacPorts installation,
Result
# then install MacPorts from MacPorts-1.6.0-10.4-Tiger.dmg
# then the trouble begins
— I guess that's the result of mpkg/pkg command skips destroot.
