8.61 from the source: ​http://pages.cs.wisc.edu/~ghost/doc/GPL/gpl861.htm doesn't build either ('./configure; make').

I couldn't reproduce your problem.

Anyway, ghostscript 8.61 is out of date. Please try the latest version. (@8.62_0)
