This wasn't a good thing to commit, because it adds a variant "mysql" depending on a port "mysql" but there is no port "mysql". There are ports "mysql3", "mysql4" and "mysql5" (and "mysql5-devel"). Please rethink that variant.

I disabled the mysql variant for now. What was its intended effect?

My mistake. I was trying to enable support for mysql4, Leaving it disabled is fine. If someone specifically asks for mysql4 support, I'll fix it. Otherwise, I'll just wait until there's a new version of radlib and roll in the changes at that point.
