Description
the various scripts, dynamic libraries, &c installed by macports assume that the installation is made to the boot drive, and do not take the selected installation drive into account.
there are many places where this mistake is made. the best way to find them is probably to take an install made to the boot drive and grep for /opt/local and /Library.
I will be looking forward to this fix so I can use MacPorts!

The MacPorts dmg has to be installed into /opt/local. Build it from source if you want to install to another location.
Can we remove the disk selection dialog from the dmg?
