Looks like you got a corrupted download:

[ram@cizin ~]$ sudo port -d checksum minicom

try running

$ sudo port clean --all minicom
$ sudo port install minicom

I thought that might be the case so I tried sudo port clean which doesn't do what you might expect. Your command did the trick. Everything is working fine now. Thank you.
