- Is there a reason to make this aqbanking3 instead of just updating aqbanking?
- Can the ports be installed at the same time?
- Is aqbanking 3.x incompatible to aqbanking 2.x?
- Do we have a port explicitely requiring aqbanking 2.x?

Replying to raimue@macports.org:

Gnucash still requires aqbanking > 1.6.0 and < 2.9.0.
- see source for details (http://svn.gnucash.org/trac/browser/gnucash/trunk/configure.in)
The very latest aqbanking series 3.x.x is not source compatible to 2.x.x.
I currently have both aqbanking 3.x.x and aqbanking 2.x.x installed. I will have to check to see if aqbanking 2.x.x is deactivated though.
Port requiring aqbanking 3.x.x is kmm_banking which enables online banking for kmymoney2
- aqbanking 3.x.x also needs gwenhywfar 3.x.x as gwenhywfar 2.x.x is too old

I just verified with my installed ports.
Both aqbanking 2.3.3 and aqbanking3 3.4.2 are installed at the same time.
Currently, aqbanking 2.3.3 is deactivated.

I just added the Portfile for aqbanking3 v3.7.0.
It seems to fetch and install/update fine for me.
The only hiccup I run into is that I have to manually extract the sources and copy them to the following path after the port fails to install the first time.
/opt/local/var/macports/build/_Users_macuser_ports_devel_aqbanking3/work/aqbanking3-3.7.0
Is this normal for local Portfiles?

The problem is that the source package is named aqbanking-<version>.tar.gz, whereas the port is named aqbanking3 so that MacPorts expects aqbanking3-<version>.tar.gz
However, now that GnuCash 2.2.6 supports aqbanking3, there's no reason to keep the old version around. See #16328.

Committed revision r39541. I fixed a few issues such as the fetch path.
I ended up adding this as a new port rather than updating the existing port to make the update to gnucash 2.2.6 easier. Otherwise I would have had to update that port at the same time.
