transmission fails to install

Trying to install transmission bittorrent client, I get this error:

This looks a lot like registry corruption. What MacPorts version are you using? Do you have portinstalltype image set in your macports.conf? Have you used portinstalltype direct in the past?

I don't know about portinstalltype, I haven't touched macports.conf. This is a fresh macport install on a fresh OS X install, I installed maybe one or two programs through it before this. What should I do to fix it?

It seems to be something with transmission (either inherently transmission, or something else went wrong; either way, it seems to not affect other installs, as I was able to install synergy.
