Description

I installed MacPorts using the installer and then did the profile fix, MANPATH and helppath and the man and help worked until I closed the terminal and opened a new one. and then not even those would work. So I don't really no what's wrong I've messed with it a bit (pico .profile and copied over what it should be but still didn't work). So a few days later and out of ideas, I need some help. If you want the output from the curl then ill send it but other than that I don't know what to tell you.

This is the end output of the curl to fix .profile

sent 36540 bytes received 367818 bytes 38510.29 bytes/sec

So it sounds like you're following the instructions in the ProblemHotlist. As it says there, you should ignore the permissions errors that get printed out; they are normal. You should manually run "sudo port selfupdate" next, to update MacPorts and your ports tree.

Since it still couldn't find the port command, either the .profile did not get set up (not sure why that would be), or you did not close your Terminal window and open a new one, which you need to do to get the .profile to be read.

If even that doesn't work, please show us what is in your .profile now. Also please tell us what version of Mac OS X and Xcode you have and on what kind of Mac.
