Description
I did a
sudo port -v install liferea 1.4.22d_0 +lua
to install a new version of Liferea with the lua variant, and got the following error:
[...] ---> Compressing man pages for liferea man1/liferea.1: 55.8% -- replaced with man1/liferea.1.gz man1/liferea.1.gz: changing permissions from 00644 to 00444 ---> Installing liferea 1.4.22d_0 ---> Activating liferea 1.4.22d_0 The date/time format has changed. If you want to override the new one, you need to run gconftool-2 -s -t string /apps/liferea/date-format <format> where <format> is the format in strftime syntax. ---> Cleaning liferea ---> Removing build directory for liferea Error: Port 1.4.22d_0 not found
And the lua variant hasn't been installed:
prunille:~> port installed liferea The following ports are currently installed: liferea @1.4.22c_0+lua liferea @1.4.22d_0 (active)

"1.4.22d_0" is syntactically valid as a port name. So this is really the same problem as #14928.

Oops, I forgot to remove the version number from the command line. But anyway, if it isn't accepted, port should return an error before doing anything.
