readline installation failing

Reported by: rob@… Owned by: macports-tickets@…

Component: ports Version: 1.7.0

Port: readline

Description

I am trying to install couchdb using macports (haven't used macports before - installed yesterday, version 1.700). I have been getting hung up on:

$ sudo port install couchdb +server Password: ---> Fetching readline ---> Attempting to fetch readline-5.2.tar.gz from ftp://ftp.cwru.edu/pub/bash/

I have also tried to install readline directly and it still hangs: $ sudo port install readline Password: ---> Fetching readline ---> Attempting to fetch readline-5.2.tar.gz from ftp://ftp.cwru.edu/pub/bash/

I have been trying this since yesterday afternoon.

I see some messages that talk about --with-readline and --without-readline. Is the answer here somewhere? I didn't want to just guess what to do with these, but can't find the actual answer.

On my system, I see: /opt/local/var/macports/distfiles/readline/readline-5.2.tar.gz.TMP (but since it is hanging, never finishes)

I searched my entire hard drive for readline and see several locations...

Any ideas how I can resolve this?

That mirror is no longer used as of r44977. Sync or selfupdate and try again.

I downloaded and installed yesterday. Anyway, doing selfupdate: $ sudo port selfupdate Password:

MacPorts base version 1.700 installed Downloaded MacPorts base version 1.700

The MacPorts installation is not outdated so it was not updated

Then doing a sync: '$ sudo port sync' produces no output (so I assume some type of success) and trying to install readline succeeds using a new repo.

So, I still think there is a bug, since I downloaded and installed MacPorts yesterday...

thanks

Note that that particular mirror was also removed yesterday, so you probably did the install just a bit prior to its removal.

OK, makes sense. I thought the hang was because the server was down or I was somehow having problems connecting, so i kept trying.

This issue is closed for me, but I was wondering if it might be more appropriate to have some error message saying 'the repository is no longer available. Please run: 'sudo port sync' to update.'

thanks
