But it seemed to work for me on my other box...

I can't reproduce this on my machine either (10.4.11 ppc) and there isn't really enough information here to see what's going on. Is this an upgrade or an initial install? What platform? Is it repeatable on the offending machine? Suggest you clean the port and try again with debugging enabled to see what happens during the build phase.

it's a fresh install... I wonder if it was a 3.1 bug... I'll upgrade that box to newer XCode...

updating from XCode 3.1 to 3.1.2 fixed this...
