Description (last modified by raimue (Rainer Müller))
Hi, I have been running macports 1.7 on mac OS 10.3.9 and I have been experiencing the "unrecognized action" bug. I just downloaded it today (3-Feb-09) It appears to connect to macports, but everything I type except "quit" produces "unrecognized action." I know this was a problem with 1.6 but everyone says that it is fixed in 1.7. I have tried running the command: curl -O http://svn.macports.org/repository/macports/branches/release_1_6/base/portmgr/dmg/postflight && bash postflight and I recieve the following
% Total % Received % Xferd Average Speed Time Curr. Dload Upload Total Current Left Speed 100 7254 100 7254 0 0 5083 0 0:00:01 0:00:01 0:00:00 8364 The MacPorts Project, postflight script version 1.6.1: checking the shell environment for user "theoyale". Detected the bash shell. Your shell already has the right PATH environment variable for use with MacPorts! Your shell already has the right MANPATH environment variable for use with MacPorts! Your shell already has the right DISPLAY environment variable for use with MacPorts! Synchronizing the MacPorts installation with the project's rsync server... Synchronizing local ports tree from rsync://rsync.macports.org/release/ports/
then it waits a while, spits out a bunch of text (looks like files or directories) and concludes:
mkstemp "/opt/local/var/macports/sources/rsync.macports.org/release/base/src/.sqlite-3.1.3.tar.gz.jsdRoZ" failed: Permission denied
and then it doesn't do anything else.
Am I doing something wrong/ Does the bug still exist? Is it a problem with 10.3.9? What am I supposed to do to make macports work?
PLEASE in your reply explain things simply from the beginning; I am no dummy but I have never used macports before and have not used terminal a lot. So please be as specific as you can. Tghe bug may be nothing more than that I am typing something incorrectly, so, for example please don't tell me "run the command..." or "do X in Y," tell me what to open, what to type etc. Thanks so much!

First of all, this bug tracker is not the place to discuss such things. Please use the macports-user mailing list instead and ask further questions there.
Your port installation seems to be correctly installed. But in order to use it, you need administrator privileges. Usually you gain these by using sudo
in front of your command. For example, sudo port selfupdate
.
