I searched the web thoroughly but was not able to find information about building the sharedanced session-server on OS X.

I gave it another try to build it on osx. Didn't work for me.

Is there still interest in having a port for this? The last sharedance release was in 2006, but the author has maintained the code as recently as 2017: ​https://github.com/jedisct1/sharedance. The author reports using sharedance on a Mac as well.
