Description
checking whether to enable maintainer-specific portions of Makefiles... no checking for style of include used by make... GNU checking for gcc... gcc -arch i386 checking for C compiler default output file name... a.out checking whether the C compiler works... configure: error: cannot run C compiled programs. If you meant to cross compile, use `--host'. See `config.log' for more details.

lame was one of those ports that assumed universal meant "i386 ppc". Should be fixed in r55114

I can't reproduce this on a Leopard box and don't have access to a Tiger machine, so not sure where to start on this...
