#19402 closed defect (worksforme)

sox no longer plays sound files

Reported by: gale@… Owned by: davidfavor (David Favor)
Priority: Normal Milestone:
Component: ports Version: 1.7.1
Keywords: Cc:
Port: sox

Description

Mac OS X 10.4.11 on an Intel MacBook, with MacPorts 1.710.

The command:

play <any sound file>

used to work. Now it results in the following sequence of events:

  1. The speaker makes a weird clunking noise.
  1. sox displays the sound file metadata in the usual way.
  1. sox sets up the "progress bar" line.
  1. segfault.

I re-installed sox after upgrading all dependencies; same result.

I suspect this may have something to do with the recent update to iTunes that was pushed to my computer by Apple.

Seeing almost the same behavior on OS X 10.5.7, MacPorts 1.710, SoX 14.2.0. No speaker pop here, but the rest is right, including the segfault. Ditto for recording.

Unfortunately also happens with SoX 14.3.0 binary from upstream.

Jean-Michel no longer maintains these ports.

FYI /opt/local/bin/play works for me now that I've upgraded to OS 10.6.5, MacPorts 1.9.2, sox 14.3.1_1. Just played a WAV file with it several times without error. No mention in the upstream change log about a relevant fix for OS X in 14.3.1, so maybe it's still broken under Leopard?
