Description
Python 3.1 RC1 was released on 2009-05-30.
Macports already has a Python 3.1 port, but it's the alpha 1. According to PEP 375 (Python 3.1 Release Schedule), 3.1 final will at best be released in a month, probably long enough to release RC1 on Macports (esp. considering alpha 1 is 2-months outdated and 3-months old).
Python 3.1 RC1 (and beta, and alpha 2) includes quite a number of evolutions (including bugfixes) from alpha 1: http://svn.python.org/projects/python/tags/r31rc1/Misc/NEWS

Note that python31 is currently unmaintained, if you have a patch to the port it'd be more likely to be updated quickly.
