How do you figure out there are missing deps? On a linux box I'd build in a clean chroot environment, to make sure that all dependencies are explicitly declared but for ports..? Do you deactivate all your ports before building?

I don't remove all ports but I definitely remove ones I don't normally have installed. By activating archive mode, reinstalling ports is a breeze. You should check it out!
remove all: sudo port -f uninstall installed
remove some: sudo port_cutleaves (port:port_cutleaves)

This seems to also have a dependency on kdepim4 (or one of it's prereqs). Do you know off hand which it might be?
