Description
On 10.3 /etc exists as a link. When installing xorg-X11R6.7.0 on 10.3 it creates a new /etc which is empty (except for /etc/fonts and /etc/X11.) This causes a problem when you next boot because nothing in /etc can be found.

This also appears as a problem when installing the DarwinPort:
... ---> Installing xorg X11R6.8.2_0 ---> Activating xorg X11R6.8.2_0 Error: Target com.apple.activate returned: Image error: /etc/fonts/fonts.conf already exists and does not belong to a registered port. Unable to activate port xorg. Warning: the following items did not execute (for xorg): com.apple.activate

I THINK this only happens if you have apple's X11 previously installed.
fonts.conf is the configuration file for the fontconfig library - but I'm not sure if OS X uses the fontconfig library for system-wide fonts.

This ticket is not relevant anymore, is it?

I fixed the bug with PKG, in r29445. That takes care of the installing-a-package-made-my-system-unbootable issue.
/etc is still an mtree violation, though. just less severe.

Fixed in MacPorts 1.6.0, as mentioned right above.
Surely this is a bug against the DarwinPort from which this package is generated?
