#21679 closed defect (duplicate)

inkscape 0.46_9 hangs without displaying a window

Reported by: hanche Owned by: macports-tickets@…
Priority: Normal Milestone:
Component: ports Version: 1.8.0
Keywords: hang Cc: ryandesign (Ryan Carsten Schmidt)
Port: inkscape, pango

Description (last modified by ryandesign (Ryan Carsten Schmidt))

I'm on OS X 10.5.8 (intel), XCode 3.1.3.

Starting inkscape, it takes about 2 minutes before it prints this warning several times:

Gtk-WARNING **: GtkSpinButton: setting an adjustment with non-zero page size is deprecated

Then, after several more minutes, it uses all the CPU it can get but never displays a window. I attach a sample of the process.

What is the output from running the following?

$ port installed pango

If the version is 1.26.0, it's probably the same as #21624 (and #21678).

Strangely, the prebuilt inkscape from inkscape.org also hangs. The main difference is that this one uses up system time, not user time. I wonder if my problem is related to the X11 version I am running? XQuartz 2.4.0, xorg-server 1.5.3-apple14. I'll ask on the X11-users mailing list if anybody has a suggestion.

Oops, I missed your question. Here:

  pango @1.24.2_0+macosx
  pango @1.24.5_0+macosx
  pango @1.26.0_0+macosx (active)

So can I just activate an earlier pango and all will be well? It's worth a try, I guess.

Yay. Deactivated pango 1.26.0, reactivated pango 1.24.5, rebuilt all of pango's direct dependents and then inkscape, and now inkscape works once more. If it was not obvious before that pango was at fault, it is now.
