Are you sure that's the MacPorts' python? It should be 2.6.2, not 2.6.1 (which is the system version).

Try /opt/local/bin/python2.6 and see if that imports right.

Please use the python_select port to use the MacPorts python, or use the versioned python name (python2.6).

You're using the Apple-supplied Python which MacPorts doesn't touch.
