ICU on 10.5 appears to broken now with the universal support that was added back in r55654 or r58655.

output of sudo port -v build icu +universal
comment:3 Changed 15 years ago by dbsgeo@…
okay, output attached. Thanks for the reminder on the '-v' flag instead of the '-d' - much more helpful. Also, I notice that when using that flag the build finishes, but no libraries are output. All I see that is suspicious is:
DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH=../stubdata:../tools/ctestfw:../lib:$DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH MAKEFLAGS= ../bin/pkgdata -O ../data/icupkg.inc -q -c -s /opt/local/var/macports/build/_opt_mports_trunk_dports_devel_icu/work/icu/source-i386/data/out/build/icudt43l -d ../lib -e icudt43 -T ./out/tmp -p icudt43l -L sicudata -m static ./out/tmp/icudata.lst ar: ../lib/libsicudata.a is a fat file (use libtool(1) or lipo(1) and ar(1) on it) ar: ../lib/libsicudata.a: Inappropriate file type or format Error generating assembly code for data.

a clarification - I'm testing on leopard (10.5), I accidentally wrote '10.4' in the attachment name, but ignore that.

Mmh. It seems multiple -arch flags are passed to gcc even though it should build each arch separately as this port is using the muniversal portgroup.
Could you paste the output of sudo port -d configure boost +universal
so I can see the configure environment?

Could you clean and then paste the output of
