Is there any reasonable reason why the --multilib option is disabled during the build of the various gcc > 4.3?

It is explicitly disabled on pcc, but is it enabled by default on Intel?

It seems it is not in gcc43, but is in gcc44.

It's only disabled on PowerPC, isn't it?
