Description
I've just downloaded macports on my machines (Macbook Mac OS X 10.5.8) and when i try to install gnuplot it starts to install things I already have on my computer.
I notice this when port was fetching pearl 5.5.9 and i already got it!!!... I even opened a new tab terminal and checked myself...

ok.. I get that... but c'mon. It's been more than an hour and still doesn't have finished installing gnuplot...My partner beside me it's laughing because in ubuntu it took less than 10 min.
Is there any way I can help to improve MacPort???

Yes, lots. Taking maintainership of unmaintained ports, wrangling tickets, writing documentation, working on the base code...
But a ticket is not the right place to discuss this, use the macports-dev list.
By design, MacPorts uses its own libraries, not libraries you already have as part of Mac OS X or have installed by hand. See the FAQ.
