Replying to flovko@…:
DEBUG: OS Version: 10.0.0
Please update to Mac OS X 10.6.2, a.k.a. Darwin 10.2.0.
DEBUG: No need to upgrade! expat 2.0.1_0 >= expat 2.0.1_0
It says expat 2.0.1_0 is installed...
---> Activating expat @2.0.1_0
Error: The following dependencies failed to build: expat libiconv gperf ncurses ncursesw
...but then it tries to activate expat and fails. Perhaps expat is installed but not active? I don't know why it wouldn't be able to activate it; MacPorts doesn't appear to have explained what error it encountered. Try uninstalling expat, cleaning it, and installing it again.
sudo port clean expat sudo port -f uninstall expat sudo port install expat
What port were you trying to install? gettext? Try cleaning that too before reattempting installation.
sudo port clean gettext

The error output explaining why the activation failed wasn't being printed previously (that was fixed in r64007), but the recent dupes show that there were conflicting files. Unless someone demonstrates that something we control is incorrectly creating those files, there isn't anything to fix here.

There is undoubtedly a third-party binary package out there, created using MacPorts mpkg, that is using /opt/local as its prefix, that includes expat, that these users have installed. So yes, it is for that third-party packager, whoever they are, to fix, by changing to a different prefix. I had planned to write up something in the ProblemHotlist about this since we've received so many duplicates about it already.

I've finally written this up in the ProblemHotlist.
As per the instructions in the Guide, please remember to preview and use WikiFormatting, fill in the Port field, and cc the maintainer. Also please don't set the milestone field.
