Why are you using -t and -f?

comment:4 Changed 15 years ago by buname@…

i'm using -f because i didn't succes (-f = force) and -t and -d to have extra verbosity unless i have this and it's not ok :

--->  Fetching rdiff-backup
--->  Attempting to fetch rdiff-backup-1.2.8.tar.gz from http://nongnu.mirror.ironie.org/rdiff-backup
--->  Attempting to fetch rdiff-backup-1.2.8.tar.gz from http://www.very-clever.com/download/nongnu/rdiff-backup

--->  Building rdiff-backup
--->  Staging rdiff-backup into destroot
--->  Installing rdiff-backup @1.2.8_1
--->  Activating rdiff-backup @1.2.8_1
--->  Cleaning rdiff-backup

i have redone from scratch and the same ... it didn't work on my mac ;(

comment:5 Changed 15 years ago by buname@…

do this matter ?

sudo python_select python26

comment:6 Changed 15 years ago by jmroot (Joshua Root)

Force means "I know I'm doing it wrong, do it anyway," not "fix all my problems". Trace mode means "make my build much more likely to fail by restricting which files it can access". Debug mode is all you should be using here.

comment:7 Changed 15 years ago by buname@…

ok i'm using bad switch but it was after using the recommended way :

sudo port install rdiff-backup

comment:8 Changed 15 years ago by buname@…

on one mac i have succed

$ /opt/local/bin/rdiff-backup --version
rdiff-backup 1.2.8

on the other with complete re-install off port http://guide.macports.org/#installing.macports.uninstalling it's impossible

all two are on 10.6.2

can i tar the /opt one one and untar on the other ?

ps : i have tested with fink + unstable it's ok but i prefer port ;(

 /sw/bin/rdiff-backup --version
rdiff-backup 1.2.8

comment:9 Changed 15 years ago by jmroot (Joshua Root)

If you supply debug output of the failure, someone might be able to fix it.

comment:10 Changed 15 years ago by buname@…

can you confirm what I have to do ?

1/ clean all port

2/ clean all fink

3/ install port via Latest MacPorts release: 1.8.2

4/ run the command

sudo port install -v -d rdiff-backup

5/ attach the output there

thank's

For clarification, is rdiff-backup supposed to be in /opt/local/bin? When I installed it on my Mac OSX 10.4.11, it was only installed into /opt/local/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/bin instead of /opt/local/bin. Is this related to the problem posted above?

comment:12 Changed 15 years ago by ryandesign (Ryan Carsten Schmidt)

I can confirm that rdiff-backup installs into /opt/local/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/bin. I too would have expected it to install into /opt/local/bin.

comment:13 Changed 15 years ago by buname@…

i have done another time... rdiff-backup is there

/opt/local/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/bin/

so i'v done

cd /opt/local/bin

and some

sudo ln -s /opt/local/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/bin/rdiff-backup

and last

sudo ln -s /opt/local/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/bin/rdiff-backup-statistics

so i'v got it

./rdiff-backup --version
rdiff-backup 1.2.8

i duno why on a mac i'v got it a the right place and on the othe not...

comment:14 Changed 15 years ago by sschym@…

Thanks for that, buname, this works for me, too. However, man rdiff-backup still does not work. Is there another way to access the manual entry for rdiff-backup?
