Atlas 3.8.3 build failure on G3 iBook with OS X 10.4

Running port -d install atlas shows at some point:

Clock rate configured as 600Mhz

It seems like the architecture is not being detected correctly. I use the latest OS X 10.4 with Xcode 2.5.

Much later, the build fails with:
