Description
I get this error on the terminal when trying to launch Perlprimer. The port was installed without errors and this happens in two different machines running OsX 10.6. Selfupdate and update outdated does not help and neither reinstalling the ports

I get the same problem. Since this port has no maintainer, your best bet is to contact the developers of the software and ask them to fix this.

I assume 1.1.19 works for you given that you committed the update in r67700.

I have a feeling that 1.1.19 did not work for me at the time, since I committed r67700 a minute before adding the comment above about seeing the same problem. I had updated the port to the latest version so that, when the reporter contacted the developers, he could tell them he was running the latest version.
1.1.19 does work for me now, perhaps a result of MacPorts perl having been updated to 5.12 recently.
I have updated the port to 1.1.20 in r78216.
