Description (last modified by jmroot (Joshua Root))
Hasan-Edains-MacBook-Pro:~ hasanedain$ sudo port -v selfupdate Password: list element in quotes followed by ">" instead of space while executing "lindex $entry 0" (procedure "_mports_load_quickindex" line 32) invoked from within "_mports_load_quickindex" (procedure "mportinit" line 522) invoked from within "mportinit ui_options global_options global_variations" Error: /opt/local/bin/port: Failed to initialize MacPorts, list element in quotes followed by ">" instead of space
I used the MacPorts-1.9.1.pkg on my Macbook Pro running OSX 10.6.4 XCode version 3.2.3 (4.0 SDK)
I get the same error when I try to install another package.
In my search I found defect 322 which was closed 7 years ago as being invalid.
I have tried to add a URL to my /opt/local/etc/macports/sources.conf as specified by: http://www.rabbitmq.com/macports.html
I did this in a visual text editor, and it is possible I introduced non-visible characters in doing so. I have since removed the line, and reinstalled macports, but that file may not be re-ritten in an install?

Given the commenting out seems to work, there is really no need for action. A note in the documentation about a new URL, or some such would have saved me some time.

Replying to hasane@…:
I have double checked the sources.conf. I had not introduced hidden characters, but there was a url that once commented out seems to work. http://trac.macports.org/wiki/Mirrors
