Please remember to cc the maintainer. Looks like you/someone/something deleted the source directory after running the configure phase, but left the statefile.

So, as should be your first step anytime any port fails, please clean the port and then try to install it again.
sudo port clean bzip2 sudo port install bzip2

Presumed fixed by cleaning and trying again. This was probably caused by #29233.
