Description
Now that the initd.org site is back up, Federico and Daniele have released a beta of psycopg2 2.3 What's the bast way to add this to MacPorts? Bump the version to the beta or add a variant specifically for the beta?

Okay. I'm not desperate for the update but because initd.org was down for a while and the mailing lists as well I'd like to be able to give this a go. I always recommend people use the MacPorts version of psycopg for their work.
I'll try a standalone version of the beta so I can give some feedback upstream.
Regarding the older versions: py-psycopg2 is stuck on Postgres 8.1 and Python 2.4 which makes it difficult to review on my system. This port should probably be deprecated.
But I would make the final available for Python 2.5 to 2.7 although I'm planning to end any work with 2.5 as of 2010-12-31

2.3 is out now, I'll be updating the ports this afternoon.
Best solution is to wait until a final version is out, then update the port to that version.
If we cannot wait for that, then create a -devel port for the beta version.
All the other ports for psycopg should be reviewed at the same time:
