Description
I don't know if this is a gnome-terminal or Mac problem. Gnome-terminal starts from issuing the command from another terminal but won't start if I try to start it from the X11.app application menu.

I was able to reproduce this using the Apple supplied X11.app on Snow Leopard. Referring to the Console log shows that the failure involves not being able connect to the session dbus. I'm guessing that this is due to the fact that gnome-terminal is being launched from the X11.app's environment which may not define DBUS_LAUNCHD_SESSION_BUS_SOCKET properly.
Using the MacPorts xorg-server port instead, gnome-terminal launches properly so I assume the problem is, in fact, specific to the Apple supplied X11.app and nothing to do with MacPorts.
Suggest you try the xorg-server port. If you continue to have problems with that, feel free to reopen.
