I already did take a look at firebird some month ago, and back then I didn't manage to get it running; perhaps we can evolve some Portfile together?

I haven't looked at this in detail since the instructions are extensive, but since you have an obvious interest in this title being incorporated into our offerings (and this is an open source project in any case), why don't you try writing at least a test Portfile for it and submit here so we can take a look? I'm sure someone will review and commit if appropriate, or in any case at least give you pointers to improve it and submit again.
