Description
This is based upon python_select @0.3, but intended for maven.
I've for other patches for the ports, maven, maven2 and maven3, to integrate them into using maven_select.

Do we really need a maven_select when there's the 'port select' action?

I wasn't aware of it and man select doesn't show anything.
Does using "PortGroup select 1.0" put in the bits to enable "port select"?
We should deprecate all the *select ports, as I just copied Python's.

I wasn't aware of "port select" when I submitted the patch. Since becoming aware I search macports but not found any reference to its functionality. I could only find information when executing "port help select".
I've just check it works with maven, so I guess my port can be deleted and the maven2 and maven3 ports be updated to use the preferred method.
Shall I raise a delete maven_select port request, or just reopen this ticket?
I also tried port select with python but it failed to switch.

FYI, a maven_select port had previously been requested in #26823.

maven_select could probably be removed now as the standard port select works for maven 2 & 3, with a little effort it could be back ported to work work maven 1 as well.

Patches welcome to move maven to MacPorts' built in select method, my available cycles are few.
