openbabel 2.3.0 version update

Reported by: mlund (Mikael Lund) Owned by: beatrupp (Beat Rupp)
Priority: Normal Milestone:
Component: ports Version:
Keywords: Cc: blb@…
Port: openbabel

Description

Update openbabel from 2.2.3 to. 2.3.0. The build system has changed from autotools to cmake and I have changed the maintainer to me as well as set the "openmaintainer" address (the original maintainer has not reponded to updates for the past three years).

I am not maintaining the "py26-openbabel" package but that probably needs updating. Would it be a good idea to have the python module as a variant in "openbabel"? Not quite sure how to do that, so help would in that case be needed.

Integrating the python module would simplify some things (the biggest downside would be if someone installs openbabel then later wants the python module, they'd have to rebuild all of openbabel to get a different variant set).

The best way to do it would be to add variants for +python26 and (assuming it works with 2.7 as well) +python27, since 2.6 is now the older 2.x stable in favor of 2.7 but both are still used quite a bit in MacPorts.

See the LyX Portfile and git-core Portfile for a couple of examples.

Is there anything happening with this??

It seems to have been left up in the air

Im curious as Ive just upgrade my Portfiles for OpenBabel and py26-openbabel to 2.3.1 (the just released latest version) and was going to post these but noticed since Id last worked on OpenBabel (quite a while) Portfiles had been added for Openabel 2.3.0 and py26-openbabel

Is everybody using OpenBabel implementing their own Portfiles? - I certainly am

I'm not actively updating OpenBabel at this time, because I'm not using it anymore. I used it at the time, though (https://trac.macports.org/browser/trunk/dports/science/openbabel/Portfile?rev=16560). It might be better to remove my email from the maintainers of this port. I'm sorry if I didn't respond! I don't remember getting any inquires about this, though. Sometimes those messages got caught by the gmail spam filter.
